Getting started

New here?
Here is the whole thing.

lorewend is an AI gamemaster that runs inside the AI you already pay for — Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, any MCP-capable client. This page takes you from nothing to your first roll: what you get, how to connect it, and how to play. And you can play in any language you like — the AI narrates in whatever language you speak to it.

Set it up

Connect lorewend to your AI in three steps.

lorewend plugs into your AI app as an MCP connector. (MCP is the standard way AI apps add extra tools; you don't need to understand it to use it.) Claude (the app or the website) works best right now, and that's what we show below. ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI apps connect the same way once they support MCP. There are no extra setup codes and no second bill. It runs on the AI you already pay for.

  1. 01

Open your AI app’s connector settings

Open Claude (the app or claude.ai) and go to Settings → Connectors. (In some versions this is called Developer or MCP; look for whichever one you have.) Click to add a custom connector. Using a different AI app? Look for its connector or MCP setting; the steps are the same from here.
  2. 02

    Add the lorewend connector

Paste the address below as a custom (remote) MCP connector — exactly as it is. You add it once: this one link covers every game you will ever play, so you never add another.

    https://lorewend.app/mcp/lorewend

  3. 03

    Sign in once

The first time you open it you are asked to sign in with Google or Discord. That links the campaign to your account — and the gamemaster takes it from there.
  4. 04

Allow the tools once (30 seconds)

Your AI asks before using each game tool — its safety net for connectors. Skip all of it in one move: open the connector you just added (Settings → Connectors → lorewend), find Tool permissions, and switch the group from “Needs approval” to “Always allow”. That is ten tools, one dropdown, done forever. (If you skip this, you can also just press Enter on each prompt during your first minutes of play — “Always allow” is the default button and each tool asks only once, ever.)

Your first game

Make a character, then just play.

  1. 01

    Make a character

Tell the gamemaster you are ready and it walks you through it: pick a race (and an optional lineage like Drow or Wood for an Elf), a classa culture (Skarn, Averran, Velessi or Korvath) and a rolea lineage (Baseline, Chromed, Ghosted or Reclaimed) and a rolea heritage (Commonborn, Wretched, Highborn or Foreigner) and a rolea species (Human, Voidborn, Saurian or Korrin) and a role, and a background. The engine derives your HP, AC, saves and spell slotsgeargearkitTide slots from those choices — so they genuinely matter — and hands you a woven backstory to begin from.
  2. 02

    Speak as your character

From here you simply type what you do, in role“I push open the tavern door and look for the smith.” No commands needed. The gamemaster narrates a world that remembers what you did; the engine quietly rolls the dice, spends the slots, tracks the goldprices the sorcery in Doom, tracks the silvermeters the Strain, tracks the credsmeters the Dread, tracks the poundsspends the Tide, tracks the credits and runs every combat round. Prose is canon, math is law.
  3. 03

    Watch it unfold

Open the companion viewer (a link on your dashboard, one per campaign) for a live map, character sheet and journal that update as you play. (/do and /rule are optional lanes to separate an in-character action from a rules question — you rarely need them.)

Your window into the world

A live screen for your hero, your map and your story.

The viewer is a web page that shows your game like the screen in a video game. Open it from your dashboard (one link for each game). It updates by itself while you play inside your AI, so you never edit it, you just watch.

The lorewend companion viewer: a live map, the character sheet, and the journal, side by side
  1. 01

    The character sheet

Your hero’s numbers, all in one place: health (HP), armour (AC), goldsilvercredspoundscredits, your skills, your abilities and the items in your bag. The engine keeps these honest, so what it shows is always true.
  2. 02

    The map

Where you are in the world, drawn as you explore it. Places you have not reached yet stay hidden in fog. Walk there and they appear, with your own marker showing exactly where you stand.
  3. 03

    The journal

A diary the game writes for you: the big moments, the quests you are on, the people you have met. Put the game down for a week and pick the thread straight back up.

As you go, the viewer also fills in your companions, quests and any conditions on your hero, so everything the engine is tracking stays in plain sight.

Starting over

Want a fresh start? Or a whole new world?

Already have a game going but feel like starting something new? You do not lose a thing — and you never touch the connector again. You added it once; every game lives behind that one link, and you start, switch and manage them all just by asking.

  1. 01

    Just say the word

To begin a fresh adventure, tell the gamemaster “Start a new game”. A brand-new, empty story opens alongside the ones you already have — no new link to add, nothing to set up. Your other games are untouched, waiting where you left them.
  2. 02

    Pick a world

Each game can be a different world. Tell the gamemaster which one when you make your character: classic fantasy (swords and spells), Serpent Throne (sword and sorcery), Neon Wake (neon cyberpunk), Mournwick (gothic horror), or Starfall (space adventure). The same easy play, very different worlds.
  3. 03

    Switch back any time

Nothing is ever deleted. Say “List my games” to see them all, or “Load …” to jump back into one — your hero, map and journal exactly as you left them. You can also see and manage every game on your dashboard. Free keeps up to three live at once; Premium makes it unlimited.

Save and undo

The game saves itself. And you can rewind it.

You never press save. The engine snapshots your whole world at every scene, so nothing is ever lost, and if a choice goes badly you can wind the story back and take it again.

  1. 01

    It saves on its own

Every time the story turns a corner, the engine quietly snapshots your whole game: your hero, the map, the journal, everyone you have met. You do not manage it; it is just always there.
  2. 02

    Rewind by just asking

Made a choice you regret, or lost a fight you would rather replay? Tell the gamemaster: take me back to before the bridge. It restores the whole world to that moment, and you carry on from there.
  3. 03

    Death is not the end

If your hero falls, you are not stuck. Wind back to before the fatal fight and try it a different way. The story is yours to retell.
